Two-Toned Swirl Dress - December MAGAM = DONE!
Hello lovely sewing divas:
It seems I have read photos taken when it is overcase are best. Okaaaay! I'll keep working at it. This was taken in the morning and outside. As I will be wearing this dress next month I hope to get way better photographs of it and full length.
The bodice fabric is a soft off white, almost the color of vanilla soft serve. The bottom and the fiping (what I call fake piping) has tones of green and off white.
Of course I blogged all about it.

2015 . . . woooo weeee, here we come!!!! Looks like we'll be a meetin' on Facebook.

Changes for the New Year, Your Comments and My Thoughts.

Hi everyone,
Firstly, thank you all for leaving such thoughtful comments about the MAGAM blog. It seems that we have a core community of sewers that love to meet up and visit each others blogs to see what we have made.
That is the best part of the blog community and that is what I want to maintain. Quite a number of you made the comment that other people could help, and I agree, especially with monthly themes. Monthly themes would be fun if everyone suggested themes - we could slowly work on them over time. I can think of lots of ideas on how to work this.
As for editors, yes, another editor could operate this blog, or someone else could take it over. While I initially had the idea, I don't consider it particularly "my property"- we have all contributed.
Some of you have commented that you are not Facebookers. I wasn't either, until this year. I joined for two reasons - 1. A University Forum that I had to participate in. And 2. I was also in Sarah's RTW fast (Goodbye Valentino) - as Accordion 3 pointed out, this worked well.
I was never going to go on Facebook - privacy, thought it was banal and time consuming and so on. I always operate via a nom-de-plume on social media as I like to keep this life private and not mingled with professional and personal life concerns. This is easy to do for those of you that are worried that your employer may find out you Facebook sewing adventures :). And I do not muddle up my Professional page with my Sewing Page on Facebook.
Some of you are not keen on Facebook, one will part ways, and the rest are comfortable with Facebook. It really did work well for the RTW fast. It also worked well for the Stashbusters group this year.
It would be a closed group, so it would only be our community plus anyone else that would like to join. We can still have the monthly themes, and post pictures there, and link to our blogs.
The big advantage is that if we want to have a chat about themes or our work, it is easy to run a thread on Facebook.
As far as my thoughts are concerned, next year I will have commitments to study, work, and things in my personal life that need attention. And my own blog to maintain. Some of you have the same problems - it's called Life, I think :) Facebook is an very workable way to keep this going, and apart from the initial set up that I will have to do (and learn as well!) runs well.
So, in a nutshell, this blog can be handed over to someone else next year, or we can move to Facebook.
Mind you, I'll have to learn to set up a page (easy to do) and then work out how to get you on it - I think it is just a matter of emailing you - that's how these things seem to work!).
Over to you,
Sarah Liz
Decision Made
I finally decided on my December Garment of the Month. I will make V9024 using fabric purchased this year from Mood Fabrics and Gorgeous Fabrics.

Changes for the New Year, What would you like to see?

Hello everyone,
This has been a great challenge this year, with so many of you committed to making a garment a month.
This challenge has been running for twelve months now, and much as I would like to keep this blog going, with lots of improvements, I will not be able to next year. as I will need to commit more time to work and study in my off blog life.
I still want us to have a home for this challenge, but one that is a little more low maintenance for me.
I have seen Facebook used for groups with great success, and will set up a group page there if you would like to keep going. Facebook is great for chatting and communicating as well.
Would you like to continue on Facebook?
Also, it would be great to work with themes that you want to work with next year, or even sew-a-long monthly themes. What ideas do you have - because this is your challenge too, and I want it to work for you as much as for me.
Let me know your ideas.
Do post your December garments here, and let me know your thoughts on a Facebook group.
Sarah Liz.
November Nights Top.
I made a couple of things in November, but am using this garment as my official November nights top. I did not have a top that could be worn to a more evening type affair - a dinner or something that is smartish but still a casual affair. This top fits the bill. Kwik Sew 3036.

Lovenicky's December Chainmail dress done!

November garment photo
Clothing this time of year needs to be warm here in upstate NY, so when my sewing guild's theme for our Nov. meeting was "cozy" garments, I decided to finally finish a fleece jacket that I started back in 2010 and I actually met the deadline, the only thing that seems to get me to complete projects.
I also decided to use this jacket as my MAGAM entry since it's the only thing I've sewn for myself lately, trying to focus on Christmas gift sewing instead, but that deadline is so far away that I haven't yet done much work on those projects either.
More info on my new jacket on my blog http://suzyssewingsite. blogspot.com/ if you are interested.

December dress
Hello,
I've chosen a Burda pattern from the magazine dated sept 2013.
It's an easy one. (at least, it should be !)
I dyed an old thick sheet in blue. The orange fabric used to be white but the colour didn't suit me at all. I think it's nicer in this warmer colour. As it is a blend of cotton and silk, it should drape enough to make these huge sleeves.
Let's see the result soon !
Happy sewing,
Karine

December "Festive Dress"
Newlook 6071. I had another pattern in mind from Burdastyle- but I can't find it and I've wasted 3 days looking for it. I looked this up on the Pattern Review Website and there is no shortage of reviews, it seems to be highly recommended. Sadly, now out of print. I scanned over the instructions and it was looking a bit convoluted. I'm a bit nervous because I really like this fashion fabric. It's a velvet burnout with a lot of body. I don't think I have it in me to figure out how to make a lining for it so I might just make a separate slip. I like to dress up for Christmas dinner and this will fit the bill for a " festive" - yet classic, little black dress. I will make the dress with 3/4 length sleeves and I might just lengthen the hemline a few more inches too.

November MGAM Done! Workout wear!
Hi everyone! I know I have been a teensy MIA after I cut off part of my thumb but I am slowly getting back to sewing. For November, I challenge myself to sew some workout clothes! It all started when I scored this spandex top at the thrift store. I decided to use it as fabric and make a pair of hot shorts and a sports bra. I used a Jalie pattern. I am really happy with the results as now I have learned to sew with foldover elastic and a twin needle now!
For more information, check out my blog here.
Cheers,
Lauren

December Make ~ V8939
Oh how I love December! So I am so excited to make my "Dress for Christmas" for this months theme. It's a quiet stay at home Christmas for us this year so this will be a comfy wear for when I eat too much food!
Inspired by the fabric choice of Tracy H for her November make (Thanks Tracy!) I hunted for similar and found this festive knit of which I am going to make the Dress, View D, from my Old Faithful Sewing Pattern Vogue 8939 which happens to have the most uninspiring pattern envelope ever! I am also going to add a hem flounce to this version.
Happy December Sewing Everyone!

McCall's 6796 November Garment of the Month
I have been on a "staycation" and got quite a few things sewn, including my originally plan garment of the month. I used fabric that was about a year old and purchased from EmmaOneSock. Because of the design of the fabric, I used a single layer layout for cutting out the front and back.
I was happy that my pattern layout worked and have side seams align with the pattern design. I chose to put the floral part of the fabric at the bottom with the intent of having less side seam alignment .
Here is a shot of the side seam when I was in the work in progress phase.
And here is the final garment on a hanger. I am not photo ready this morning to take final shots of the finished garment.
Next up????????- something a little more challenging that the recent tops I made which you can read about here.
