March Garment of the Month

Made the March deadline and my garment this month is also entered in the Fitted Blouse contest at Pattern Review.  This was a time consuming blouse project and so glad it is completed.  Here are few photos of the completed blouse.  You can pop over to my blog for more details.

I have to give some thought to the April Garment of the Month.  I think I want to go with something simple.

March MAGAM challenge completed

Despite family issues, I managed to complete March's challenge - Simplicity 2151. For more details, please see my Pattern Review entry and my blog.

Not the material I had originally planned to use! Lovely colour, poor quality.

Lisa's April plans

A pretty 3/4 length sleeve top out of a soft knit are planned for April.  The calendar may say it is Spring in the South (USA), but you never know what the weather holds until the hot, humid summertime kicks in @June.  So this top should work great.  I've worked a little with knits, but not made, nor worn, this type of top... so am trying a new 'look' for me.  More info on my blog.
Happy Sewing All!

Jolanda's finished March dress

It's lovely to finish something in time and to be able to wear it for Mother's day is even better!

This dress is so comfortable, I want to make some jersey dresses this year.

I will be back later this week when I have decided what to do for April

Bye for now

Simple does it for April.

This month I am going to challenge myself again with making pants.  I went through a learning curve last year and I want to revisit this pattern and tweak it a bit.

The fabric is a stretch cotton sateen.

March dress complete

Here is my dress for March. I like it, and I'm pretty happy with the sleeves. It's lined (except the sleeves) with navy cotton voile.

See you next month !
Happy sewing,

Perhaps A Peach Top

Sitting at the corner of my sewing table is a basket full of fabrics that have been paired up with patterns. Sitting right on top is this cute embroidered, peach, shirting.

I've written several posts about this fabric before (here) and loved how it tuned out. Read more about my plans on my blog The Sterling Thimble!

Dawn's April Plans

For the month of April I have decided to make something I have never made before from a pattern company I have never used before. In fact this is something I have never even worn before either!

Dungarees!

It is not so much learning a new technique as the theme indicates this month but making something completely new and different (as in never made before) for the new Season. Plus I need to improve on my top-stitching skills!

I have chosen some black corduroy and I have a bit (literally!) of cotton fabric left over from a jacket (See Here) which I am going to line the bib with.

Happy April Sewing everyone :)

April is already here.

I can't believe we are already into April - the second quarter of the year is here already.   April is classically associated with the buds of spring, and certainly in the northern hemisphere that is what you will be experiencing soon.  Here in Australia, it is a little different, depending on where you live.  In the more arid regions, April also heralds rebirth of vegetation after long baking summers.

So, themes of growth and regeneration - something that humans have done for centuries via myths and seasons.

Maybe this month you can learn a new technique, expand your sewing knowledge, or just make something you like for the new season.

Happy sewing everyone.

March - Mod Keyhole Blouse

Well March is almost over and I have just managed to scrape in a garment for myself! My last blast of a summer appropriate sewing.  I am calling this my Mod Keyhole Blouse.  When I first saw this fabric it immediately brought to mind sunday afternoon matinee movies with Elvis, Annette Funicello, Frankie Avalon and Gidget!!! And, since it is my fave cotton voile, it took no thought at all - I simply had to have some!

You can read more here.

Cheers,
Karen Pior.

March goals complete and April's garment

Hi everyone....I wanted to get this posted tonight because tomorrow I'll be leaving for Oklahoma to see my grandma who is 98 years young.  So this will be kept short to see all of the completed "Rag Bag" please visit my blog at :  http://rememberingoz.blogspot.com.  One of my goals to to complete all of the projects I threw aside and didn't want to complete...I even repurposed a muslin.

One of my projects that completed...and why did I wait so long to complete it?  I am very pleased with the out come.

For April I want to complete a retro 1950's blouse.  This is going to be a muslin...but I think it will be a wearable one.  Tried to find a retro looking fabric, and came across this in a clearance area.
Sorry for the short entry...but I need to get to sleep for the trip tomorrow...can't wait to see my grandma.  Have a great weekend!!!

Can not Decide. Which Fabric?

My son is graduating this June, and I want to make a dress for this very special event.  But, I having a very hard time deciding which fabric to make the dress out of.

February MAGAM

It's finished.  I made McCalls 4097 view A.  The neckline is too big and my bra straps show.  I don't know what I can do to hide them.  I hope March's garment will come out better.  See my blog for more details.

March Sewing Plans

March always ends up being a busy month for me, so after dealing with lots of grading and work-related travel, I'm coming in under the wire with my sewing plans this month. I'm planning to take advantage of this last week week of March to make a simple top--I'm going to make the MariaDenmark Day-to-Night Drape Top in a Burgundy Mira Slub Knit jersey I got from Girl Charlee. I've posted a few more details on my blog if you're interested.

Hopefully the busiest part of the semester is behind me and I can work on something a bit more complicated in April!

Star's Threads - April Garment Decided

Is it too early to post my April plans?  I hope not, because I need your help in deciding which sleeves to make.

Should I make the long sleeve version or the short, flutterly sleeve version?  Visit my blog and let me know your thoughts!

Thanks everyone!

March Project finished!

My Project for March was New Look 6648. I kept it simple this month as when February turned into March I already had a work in progress (This Dress) and I didn't know how long that would take me!

I used this months MAGAM Challenge to make a top that I needed to go with some jeans I bought back in December and never worn as I nothing to wear with them. If you visit My Blog you will see these were no ordinary jeans! Plus there are more photos and of course the link to my Sewing Pattern Review.

Happy Sewing everyone and see you all next month! :)

Accordion got squeezed out of February and March (sorry)

Hey everyone - February was a not nice month for me, March followed on in the same way.

Troubles at work, research thesis deadline and lots of busyness getting the kids settled back into school for 2014. A lot of sewing achieved for others, particularly my youngest daughter, but no sewing for me.

To celebrate my birthday I treated myself to some navy stretch bengaline to make up some pants. Now I need pattern suggestions. I would like a zip, side front pockets and the capacity to adjust for weight loss.

To clear space I'm giving away some patterns from my stash. Check the blog for more details.

Cheers all - Accordion3

March garment complete!

Got my second March project complete! Finally this Butterick 5599 dress complete. Not going to lie, it was a difficult pattern with so many pieces and a lot of seams. Then on top of it, the bodice gapped in the middle of my chest. It took some time to figure it out what the issue was, but I wound up removing about 2 inches in the center. This dress actually had a previous life as a large maxi skirt.

For more on my dress click here!

Cheers,
Lauren

Late March plans

February was a bit of miss for me and I am late enough posting about my March plans that I have finished one of the two skirts.

I planned on making two skirts this month, both from the same navy wool fabric.  My Self Drafted TNT Pencil Skirt and Marfy 0757.

The pencil skirt is finished!

and the Marfy has taken a few backward steps but plan to finish it before the month finishes!

There is a little bit more information on my blog.

I kinda went nuts

March madness - I think that's what I'll call my sewing this month as PR had a 'New to me pattern company' contest. So I made 3 new to me pattern company garments.
My 80s project for me was this bomber jacket from Lekala patterns.

Go to patterns Simply lovely dress was the second make.
These Raven shorts from Sinbad and Sailor were the third make.

My planning skills are not refined but this contest was a fun challenge.
31 different pattern companies were chosen by 38 participants.
There are no prizes for who made the most clothes and voting ends soon.

Playing Catch-Up in March!

Once again, I've taken ages to post my March garment! I've cut it out already but have finally remembered to post a picture...

I'm going to make Simplicity 1699, Dress view -- out of light cotton -- because I am Sick.Of.Winter!! It has been so wintery here, with a blizzard just 2 days ago and -20C predicted tonight. I need to encourage Spring to make an appearance, so am going to start right in on summer sewing.

This is my first attempt at making a dress from novelty quilting cotton, but it's a very light and fluid cotton. I've had it for at least 15 years as I bought it originally to make a quilt with the theme of Space Odyssey 2001. Hmmm. Never got made, so here goes with a starry dress! I'm going to add piping in the neckline and sleeve hems, something I've never tried before. I'm attempting to learn something new with each of my sewing projects this year, and this one is piping.

Finally, my March garment

After a lot of thought and enforced inactivity, I've decided to combine PR's Fitted Blouse contest and March's MAGAM challenge.
I've gone for Simplicity 2151, view C
See my blog for further details, fabric and pattern decisions and PR competition rules.

Best wishes
Anne

March in the Coco

My March garment is complete.  It is the sweet Coco dress from Tilly and the Buttons.  This dress is ideal for the beginner seamstress.  It also has a lovely top variation.

The only complaint is how the shoulders are drafted.  It is a little long.  I'll make sure to correct that on my next go-round with her.

If you want to see and read about it, complete with more pictures, please stop by my blog:

Happy Stitching,

My goodness I dont find

Vogue 8228 For March

Hi all,
For this month, I am going to make a dress based on Vogue 8228. Many months ago a friend gave me four Vogue patterns and I think is time for me to give one of the pattern a try. I never worked with Vogue pattern before, so I hope my dress will turn out as the pattern envelope.
For the fabric, I will use linen in strong blue color.
Beside working on this dress, I am also working on my dress for "mad men dress challenge" and will sew some more little stuff.
More details of my sewing plans are here in my blog

Have a lovely Friday and Happy Sewing to you all!
