Yes, you have come to the right place. This is the new home of the Make a Garment a Month Challenge. It has been so successful that it really needs a home of it's own so we can support and encourage each other in our sewing goals.
Over the next few weeks I'll be sending out invitations for those of you who are active members of this challenge to join our new group blog. If you haven't heard from me, just let me know by email - firstname.lastname@example.org.
I have recoded the Challenge Button - I know it's a pest, but could you take down the original one, and replace it with the code you will find on this blog - look at the side bar and you will find it there. That way people who click on the button will come to this blog and find all of us :) or join us.
(Anyone that comes to my blog will find a redirection about what we are doing, and where to find us at the end of the December).
I've posted all of our November and December garments in the 2013 Gallery. I'll add the December ones when they come in. For this month post on your blog - if you want to post your December garment here as well, that's a great idea - it will get you familiar with the blog. Next year follow these guidelines:
1/. Every month you make a garment - for yourself.
2/. Post your plans on your blog and include reasons why you want to make the garment - maybe it is to learn a new skill, maybe it is to build your wardrobe, maybe it is just for fun, maybe it is just because you have always wanted to make it, maybe it's because you are trying to use up your stash (or pattern hoard).
3/. Post a picture of you pattern and fabric choice on this blog. Like this:
And please tell us to visit your blog for all the details (make sure you put in a link). Label your post with your name (ie. Sarah Liz) and the pattern number you are using, for instance Butterick 5917. If your pattern is a self draft, label it "self draft". This way we can look up patterns and see what you plan to make.
4/. When you have finished your garment, write a post on your blog about the garment, the pattern and how the process of making it went. If you do a review on Pattern Review let us know, so we can also go there and see what you have to say :)
5/. Then post a picture of your finished garment on this blog. It would be great if you could model it because a garment does look better on a body. And we sewers all love looking at the garment on a body. Label it with your name and the pattern name and number. (or magazine if you are using Burda, Ottobre or any other magazine. If the pattern is a self draft label it "self draft") These will be the only labels allowed. Once again, add a link to your blog so we can visit and see what you have to say about the garment. That's the real fun part. For those of you that do not have blogs, just post on this blog only.
The label system will be used so that we can all see what garments each participant has made or plans to make, and we can also see easily find the completed garments. This will be great when we have more than participant making each garment - the different variations will be fantastic for inspiration.
Lets make 2014 a really fantastic sewing year - all it takes is a garment a month.
You can also chat about anything garment related on this blog - feel free to interact with everyone, either here or on the blogger's home blog.
And , if you are in other challenges do let everyone know - we may want to join you :)
As administrator, I'll also post all your garments in the Gallery.
Many of you will set your own goals for your projects, but I will also make a suggestion each month for those of you who love to sew along with others on a similar garment - and it's great to share your experiences, good and bad, that you had along the way.
That't it from me for now. When you are ready, start posting your January plans...
If you want to join, please email me, email@example.com.
